1st game with Oregon 6pts, 5 rebounds.

Not too impressive, but here is how Austin helps us.

Fitz plays 4 instead of 5. Rudd plays 3 instead of 4. Whoever started as the 3 last night is coming off the bench.

Coach would also have 3 guys he could trust rotating at the 4 and 5 instead of 2 plus Rudd and Leday.

Totally different team.

Very tough first game. Collins looked like he hasn't played much which I guess is the case. Fitzpatrick and Rudd? Can't play any worse. Poland scored will in 2nd half and will likely be a starter. Noriega didn't play much and don't know if that is by design or if that fall he took on Monday has slowed him down. Having said all that, I can see this team getting better as the year goes on. But not looking for greatness. Hawkins and de Lay need some playing time to improve. Brock shocked me by shooting free throws better than Monday. Looked like it was the first time he ever shot a free throw Monday.

But rebounding will be a problem. Where are you Ron Anderson? Just not enough size. Unless we start playing a pressing/trapping defense and force turnovers to get out on the break, just don't see us scoring enough in half court offense. Let's hope Collins isn't forced to play guys a foot bigger than himself all year long.

So who picked us in the top half of the Big East? Looks like we'll be back to the normal 3 - 4 wins in conference.

And for good measure, the refs really missed a lot of calls last night. That was my normally quiet wife you heard yelling "you suck" at them last night.

Exactly. We are an incredibly different team with Austin both on the boards and defense. We are a deeper team at all positions. That's where we miss Austin the most.

What you didn't mention is that this was in only 11 minutes too. Put that into a full game say 30 min and your looking at 18 and 15 plus the other changes you mentioned. BIG Difference in the outcome of our season in my opinion. Again only one game, you can't tell this early wait until January before we can make a full assesment on where this team will be this year
