Seriously folks...its time to stop turning a blind eye to this. A tradition was started in 2007(Without a doubt, the best, and most memorable football season in USF football history) The tradition was started before the Auburn game...and we won plenty of games after that(aka theres no flamingo jinx). There was something eerily special about seeing all those war flamingos in the student section when Ben Moffit ran back that interception at the WVU game. COME ON!!! It was all flamingos behind the goal post!!! Lets grab this flamingo tradition by the horns once and for all. Im sick of seeing only a handfull of flamingos at games(including my own). USF should market these things!!! And give proceeds to student-led fan groups like SBC and Beef-studs...whatever, just an idea! If some of you guys are stricken with crippling machismo and cannot stand to be in the presence of something pink...then hell...lets make GREEN ONES!!! AND GOLD ONES!!! WAR FLAMINGO LIVES ON!!! THE SPIRIT OF SOUTH FLORIDA!!! in a dictionary somewhere, someday... war fla·min·go noun \flÉ™- ˈ miÅ‹-( ËŒ )gÅ\ plural war fla·min·gos also war fla·min·goes Definition of WAR FLAMINGO : an inflatable version of a large aquatic bird (family Phoenicopteridae) with long legs and neck, webbed feet, a broad lamellate bill resembling that of a duck but abruptly bent downward, and usually rosy-white plumage with scarlet wing coverts and black wing quills :mythically appeared at University of South Florida sporting events(particularly football) in the year 2007 after defeating the #17 ranked Auburn Tigers in Auburn, Alabama :the war flamingo has become a battle cry for some at USF while also infusing an exotic aspect to the games that very much reflects the region and nature of south florida :flamingos in the wild are social animals that thrive in tropical and sub-tropical climates, like Tampa, Florida. See war flamingo defined for English-language learners » See war flamingo defined for kids » Illustration of WAR FLAMINGO Origin of WAR FLAMINGO obsolete Spanish flamengo (now flamenco), literally, Fleming, German (conventionally thought of as ruddy-complexioned) First Known Use: 2007 I love that after 5 years, we are still talking about the War Flamingo.
