Hmm...questionable extensions imo. Coach Skippy has no business getting a raise and I believe he got one because Heath was getting one. I'm seen it before, if the basketball coach gets a raise then the AD seems obligated to give one to the FB coach since he is in charge of the bigger money maker.

Personally I would've waited on both another year before making a call. Neither was any threat to be hired away before finishing next season.

At least theoretically, it's probably better to sign the extension now, than too late. If our season actually ends the way Phil Steele predicts, it would be risky to allow other universities to contact Skip Holtz without established contract incentives to stay with us.

Stan Heath is also developing a resume, with our first NCAAT win. If USF makes the NCAA Tournament for the next one or two seasons, people will probably see him differently and more favorably.

I like it and am cautiously optimistic that Holtz will prove himself very worthy of the increase.

I like that attitude. Assuming things can work out, it would actually be a bigger risk to let him go. There is probably a genuine reason why Arkansas was rumored to be considering Skip Holtz.

I think it was a smart move on our part to sign these deals with both coaches, especially Heath(I pray that he loves it in Tampa and would be happy to finish his career here). The one thing that stood out to me was the difference in incentives if Skip wins the BE and gets a BCS auto spot compared to if he gets an at large spot in a BCS game. I'm guessing they are putting more emphasis on this year as it is our last yr we can receieve an auto BCS spot. So If Skip has the yr like he should and schools come a knockin we also will get something out of it with the buyout.

In my opinion I have a feeling Skip is going to be gone after this yr anyways if he has the season we all are expecting w/ the talent returning. It's now or never since next yr would be a huge rebuilding yr w/ no established QB and I think he realizes he needs to jump ship ASAP since the BE is not going to be an ideal situation from a recruiting standpoint. I know Doctor Lou is chirping in his ear and telling him to get out while he can and so this was a play by our AD to get something out of him if he does decide to leave. If he has a bad yr than he will have a lot of ground to make up before a "new" BCS program will take a chance on him, considering the resources he has here and there is really no excuses for not being able to win the BE in four yrs time. Risk vs Reward! But I think we have the most to gain, there are more than enough coaches out there that would love an opportunity to coach a program like ours. One that comes to mind right away that I would love to have is June Jones and his high powered offense with Florida recruits and utilize his Texas connections as well. Only time will tell.

I'm really surprised, 2 million/year is what A&M is paying their new coach Sumlin, who they hired from Houston. Crazy to think USFs coach is earning as much as a coach at a school such as A&M. Football is just on a whole different level at Taxas A&M. Last year I think every single game was a sell out of about 88,000 and their budget I believe is a few times that of USF. Holtz has it good here. I'm glad USF is offering competitive salaries.

I would agree it is questionable for Coach Holtz, but I believe Coach Heath has earned his extension.

I like that the football assistants are being taken care of, too.
