I think kids in the state care about in state wins against the big 3. Bragging rights, maybe? But to be a Big 3, we need to get some Big 3 type recruits. Battles are won in the trenches in recruiting and if we can someday pull off a win against UF, we can say we have beaten all three.

Sure, you can say FSU or UM or UF had a down year, blah blah blah. They have all been recruiting top 10 and top 25 classes each of the past 5 years. Based on their talent, there is no reason they should have lost to lowly USF. Yet two of the 3 did. We outperformed with lesser resources.

Depends. Winning the New Big East probably won't do as much for us as a win over a good FSU, UF, or Miami team.

Still think being in a BCS game against another conference champion from the ACC, Big 12 or Pac 12 would be better than playing an in-state team. Winning that BCS game would be even better than that.

Really? Are people claiming Kansas to be a power? No?

Beating a really good instate team (especially midseason) would do wonders, now making sure we don't **** the bed in conference afterwards is key...

Winning the BE conference on a consistent basis is more important. It'll certainly make USF football the "it" thing to do, like it was in 2007 and we fell flat in conference play. Conference championships help build a more consistent fan base IMHO.

Who's claiming Kansas to be a power? Certainly not me. If you are referring to the year they made a BCS game, they were a one-hit wonder and I'm sure no one is confusing them with an Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma, etc.

Also, your statement above in bold contradicts your point - beating an instate team has done wonders for us, but our tendency to crap the bed in conference is the reason why we're perennially an also-ran. If it's not the most important goal, it's not "key."
