yep- we only had 1 mental mistake all game when Giddens jumped off sides on that FG attempt.

its nice having all those personal foul penalities being against the other guys for once.

After watching Kelly on the sidelines, reminding me of leavitt, perhaps worse, I am starting to conclude that personal fouls all start with the head coaches attitude.

no bad play from BJ, and we stuck with the game plan.  it's no surprise we won.  GO BULLS!

was there only 1 dropped pass? The one I recall was the one on 3rd that would have made it a 1st down. I think it was T-Rex that dropped it but not sure

In general, we do seem to be playing smarter, more controlled.

I believe part of the reason is having a coach who has been groomed specifically to be a head coach (Holtz) versus a high energy position coach who excelled at motivation (Leavitt).

There are pros and cons to either side of this equation or a mixture of them. And I agree that an aggressive, explosive coach does correlate to penalties.

the best part to me though is being able to watch a game and not walking away thinking we got out-coached rather than simply outplayed.

BJ's sneak play on the ND goal line (3rd down) w/Darryl Scott behind him.

I'm not sure this was dumb.  They may have felt that ND would be keying on Scott.

IIRC, USF had thought they had scored on the play before and was late lining up. I remember Coach Holtz jumping on the sideline trying to get them to line up. I felt at the time that Coach Holtz should have called a timeout to get everyone back on track instead of rushing with the play that was called that they were late in running.

This is only one game, but we'll have to see if the trend continues.

9 penalties for 43 yards vs The Conference of Notre Dame.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
