It was only 2-25 until that last pass interference penalty on the last drive. The guys really are playing smart football when it comes to penalties. Great job by the coaching staff establishing the discipline we have been needing the past few years.

weren't our 1st 2 kick returns both have holding penalties too?

I believe the opening kickoff had a penalty and I think the second was another PI, I'm not sure though.

3 penalties for 40 yards....is it just me or is anyone else surprised that we had so few? We seemed like a much more disciplined team this week.

BTW whats the least amount of penalties and penalty yards USF has had in a game?

2 for 15 yds in the 38-37 DOT win at ECU in 2003 (1st CUSA season)

Thru 7 games USF has averaged 5.29 penalties for 40.43 yards per game. The best ever season since USF went to I-A play was last year at 7.25 penalties for 60.08 yards per game.

The opponents this year have 7.43 for 62.43 yards and last year had 5.75 for 50.58 yards which was the best our opponents have had since USF went to I-A play.

Yup, no stupid personal fouls after the play.

See also: Murphy, Jerome.

What I've been saying for soooooo long, keep the penalties to a minimum and avoid turning over the ball and USF can hang with any D1 team.

this team has much more discipline than in the past seasons under CJL.  VERY well received by everyone!

I was ready to roll my eyes all night when we had the holding call on the first play of the first drive, but that was our only penalty for a while. I mentioned it to my fiancee during the game too, how Cincy had all these penalties piling up. It was nice to see the opponent playing stupid for once.

Per NCAA stats through 10/23, we are tied for 26th for fewest penalties per game.

Rutgers is tied for 110th.

It's cause Jerome Murphy moved on...
