He was not always able to move the ball last year.  There were a few games where he was completely ineffective.

Our receivers are weak compared to last year. No way Landi should be a WR.

I can't believe some of you continually blame the receivers.  BJ makes horrible decisions, throws into triple coverage and you blame the receiver.

this is the first time our qb isnt slated to be our leading rusher, is it any wonder why bj daniels isnt effective this year. Year of adjustment for him to be a better balanced threat.

It is not just throwing into triple coverage, it's throwing the ball as hard as he can for a receiver only 5 yards and beaming it off of their hands, throwing it to far behind or in front of his receiver, and simply not throwing the ball away and extending the drive or punting.  They all add up real quick and this WV game is showing that.  We just need to run in 2min mode all the time and we would probably put up some more points.  Now, I'm not saying we need to bench Daniel's, this is a new system he is playing under, I'm just pointing out what he has been doing recently.  Now, a couple of decent receivers would help and hopefully it all changes when Griffen and Love are back full time.

How many returning starters did you guys bring back this season? If most of the team is back then you got to think it's the system...

Last year we had a deep threat with Mitchell.  BJ would pitch it up and CM would sometimes come up with the ball.  The defenses had to watch out for the long ball.

Now we aren't a threat to go deep, so the defenses can play close.

To me the biggest disappointment is BJ not picking up wide open guys, but instead trying to force the ball into a well covered receiver.  I hope he can pick up that skill because a qb at the college level should be able to survey the field and pick out an open man

Most of BJ's big plays came from broken plays last year.  He ran, and ran, and ran, and when he saw a player to throw to, he threw it.  I don't think Leavitt's system was necessarily superior because he still threw interceptions.  Frankly, I think we are witnessing a regressing QB.

I have a few good questions...

Why do we have less stupid defensive penalties under Holtz?

Why wasn't Leavitt's team able to run the ball effectively?

Why is our special teams much improved under Holtz?
