If there is a concern with size at WR position it will be downfield blocking. I'm sure the OC will take this into consideration with personnel packages. I'm not really concerened about size. More about the lack of experience and ability to catch consistently. That is the area we have struggled with in the past.

That's why I am surprised that Holtz and Boyd haven't tried to get a hardship waiver. He has very good grounds, because he came back to Florida to be closer to his young son and family. I know that he had a lingering hamstring injury at ND in the spring, but he IS practicing with the team. 33 Boyd, Spencer WR 5-9 175 Fr. Cape Coral, FL (Notre Dame) (Cape Coral HS) Even if Boyd received the hardship waiver, he does not have to play this year. It's like having insurance in case the need arises. If he doesn't get it, then he's in the same position he is in now.

That seems to be the case. He has said that he thinks taking a redshirt would benefit him, by getting stronger and learning to play WR. Under normal circumstances, It probably would be better if he redshirted. BUT, it can't hurt to have a waiver in his back pocket, just in case a couple of months from now he changes his mind, because by then it's too late.
