Marinatto is horse trading with Delaney. We hand the Big10 Notre Dame, Big10 agrees to let us live.

Interesting thought.

There is a blog called Frank the Tank's Slant that has been following this expansion drama.

He writes this in a recent post:

Also note that there are reasons why Notre Dame might be “forced” to join a conference that are different than the overall “seismic” shift that Jack Sarbrick has talked about. Namely, a Big East message board obsession has apparently come true. Read into that what you will.

Maybe Marinatto and Delaney worked out a deal: No invites of Big East teams, if the Big East gives Notre Dame the ultimatum.

Can you imagine the big 10 with NU, ND, Texas.  There are more and more message boards saying Texas is still looking at the big 10.  If they got those schools the Big 10 would not raid the Big East IMO.

The "new" Big East?

EAST

U Conn

Rutgers *

Syracuse

Pittsburgh

West Virginia

South Florida

[Providence]

[seton Hall]

[st Johns]

[Villanova]

[Georgetown]

WEST

Cincinnati

Louisville

Iowa State

Missouri

Kansas

Kansas State

[Marquette]

[DePaul]

[Notre Dame]

[st Louis] **

[Xavier] **

* If Rutgers leaves, replace with UCF/ECU or move Cincy to the East and add Memphis.

** I added two more basketball schools to balance because I didn't think G'town or Nova would play in the west  12 teams in football 22 in basketball (24 might be better - add U Mass in the East and Dayton in the West)

Texas won't go alone to the Big 10.  They have a "tech" problem - the SEC doesn't want Texas Tech (although they will take A&M).

I guess SEC and ACC having the same talk about letting FSU go to keep Miami to stay alive.

Very good read and Bennett makes some very good points about Kansas and who they would play basketball against.

What this means for basketball yet is unclear - a 20-team basketball conference?

It would most likely be UCF over ECU because of the orlando market.  Either way this would be a solid football conference and even better basketball conference.

I think Memphis is the team we add if it comes to taking on a CUSA team......

That wouldn't solidify the basketball conference as the best in the nation IMO.
