Coming out of HS he was listed in the 4.6 - 4.7 range by the recruiting sites. I doubt that he's currently any faster after suffering a knee injury. Despite his speed, we offered him at the time.

He's faster then 4.7 in the 40. Clock speed is way over rated. Micheal Irvin ran 4.7 and he's in the HOF.  And how many times Jerry Rice ran away from DB's on slant routes. He was clocked at 4.6 at the combines. It's all about game speed. On a side note. Did anybody heard the story of Darrell Green at the age of 50. Was clocked running 4.4 in the 40? 50 years old, 4.4 in the 40. Get the hell out.

theres exceptions to every rule... you remember the exceptions, but forget all of the guys who simply never made it in the nfl/college because they werent fast enough.. the fact is a 40 time is one statistic that can help project the ability of a player, its not the only thing you consider but in general a better 40 time means a better reciever
