Taking a Big 12 team like Mizzu or even Nebraska is logical then the Big 12 picks up TCU to stay at 12.

I could also see someone like Vandy jumping from the SEC to the Big 10 and if that happens then WvU could go SEC or if SEC took an ACC team then WvU would be ACC bound.

Big East will not see a change if Big 10 takes from the Big 12.  However, any other scenario and the Big East football will have to seriously consider breaking off from basketball and adding ECU, Memphis, and UCF just to get to 10 teams (after 1 is plucked away).

Worse case the SEC and ACC go to 14 team super conferences and the BE gets demised by Cuse going to B-10 and 4 other BE get plucked between the SEC and ACC expansion.  If that happens we are on the outside looking in.

I hope you are wrong...  The Big East needs to be adding a good team, not losing teams.

How would the Big Ten like to tap into the Florida market? ;D

They might like the idea from a money standpoint, but the Big Ten is very much into having all the States that the schools are in attached to one another.

With the Big Ten we've heard Paterno say who he'd like.  Syracuse, Rutgers, Pitt, and West Virginia are more natural rivals for Penn State but Penn State is just one member.  The western teams in the Big Ten will prefer someone closer to them, especially with six teams in the east (really eight).  I only see Ohio State and Penn State being interested in Pitt or any further east.  Syracuse maybe due to the school's history.

I think the #1 target for them would be to try to pull Nebraska out of the Big 12.  That's a program with bigtime draw that greatly adds to the Big Ten's appeal and also probably solidifies them as the best traveling conference for bowls.

And really, who would you prefer if they ended up in a title game, Nebraska or Pitt?

Mizzou would probably be the Big Ten's second choice and has been talked about before.

But their first choice above all others has always been Notre Dame.  And the Big Ten would be the conference they'd join if they ever joined a conference because of the money potential.  If they slide far enough then the Big Ten might eventually be appealing.

I think a Big East raid is more Joe Pa's fantasy.  I think that Penn State should look into joining the Big East if they like the prospect of rivals the most because there are plenty of natural rivals in the BE.  I don't see that happening unless the BE found a way to bring in more revenue and Penn State could get more money in the BE.  That's what it comes down to and that's why the Big Ten would go after Nebraska first if ND is completely uninterested.

As for Alvarez saying they don't play the last three weeks, that's all about scheduling.  The Big East plays during that time.  We played on the championship Saturday.  So did Pitt and Cincy.  The Big Ten doesn't want to schedule games so late because it defies their tradition.  Tradition is so big for the conference and also a big reason why they won't expand.  Ohio State and Michigan, the two biggest money makers, do not want the focus shifted off their game towards a conference title game.  When everything goes right they want the Big Ten title to completely hinge on the outcome of their game.

BE will not give up Rutgers and the NYC market.

BE will never add lowly Memphis.

BE probably won't give up Cuse, B10 won't want them THAT much.

B10 will take I-State or Mizz. Big 12 adds TCU. Done and Done. BE can look for it's 9th member later (or give the ultimatum to ND football).

Far reaching theory: Missouri to B10, Arkansas to B12, USF has slot in SEC? :P

one very-long term aspect to this is with it unlikely today that NDgoes to B10, if B10 goes to 12 teams, it really leaves only BE as viable alternative if ND found itself needing to be in a conference.

USF in the SEC, would be great. But our BE conference record is awful. If we had a strong basketball program. The SEC would be temped. Because SEC bball is not as strong as the ACC or BIGEAST.

Guest nybullsfan

best scenario is to shut down the b.e. as a football conference, and distribute the teams so the other bcs schools have 14 teams each

usf and louisville go to the sec

wvu and rutgers go to the acc

pitt uconn and cuse go to the big 10

cincy goes to big 12 (plus memphis or colorado state?)
