Earlier Jim Leavitt's comments on Mike Ford were posted:

When asked who stood out from the practice, Coach Leavitt said, "Mike Ford looked good today. He's was strong in three-on-three."

Here are Carl Franks' comments:

Franks on the Running Backs

“Today was really the first day of football since we have been back," said Carl Franks. "Everybody (the running backs) looked good today. We worked on fundamentals and things that we think will get our guys better. One of the things that we are stressing is getting the pads down when the backs are running. A lot of times we get players who come in here and don’t run with their pads down because when they are in high school they may be faster or more athletic than the players they are going against. But for the most part today was a good day for the backs.”

Franks will have Ford, Taylor and Plancher in tip-top form come game time.

That is precisely what I'm afraid of...

One back needs to emerge as the leader of the pack (Hopefully Ford).

franks is right.

its easy to look good on a practice field. at least more so than on the football field in october/november in front of 60k fans of your opponent, playing people who were also the best in their high schools.

i think we have the tools though to make it out on top!

I'll take it over all 3 being injured as we did last season. I am happy with the potential of all 3 being healthy all season.

Even in the NFL the two back system works best. The days of the single back system is over.

Like I have said before I don't mind 2 backs. What messes with me to no end is the 5 back system that USF has employed recently. That is not a recipe for success.

Good story, but by the title of the string, I thought that it meant the RBs would be treating everyone to hot dogs at Mel's!

...anyone?
