Coach Leavitt endorses UCF for Big East expansion:

There is no perfect system for deciding conf.  champ. You still get 3 way times etc that look towards polls or BCS to decide champ

Actually, there is.  The Big East and the Pac 10 both currently use it.  Round robin and the best record wins... With ties broken on head to head...

Here is a question... Since the Big East does not recognize Football as a conference title championship sport is there even a trophy for winning the Conference?

Jim and when team A beats Team B who beats Team C who beats Team A?

There is no perfect system when the ultimate outcome could be a costly bowl game.

It's why so many conferences that don't have title games just declare co-champs

Joe - Round Robin is based on record. If for somehow three teams ended up with the same record, they each have a win over the other two, then you go to the second tie breaker.

Something like average margin of victory? Total point differential?

That would certainly keep a team from sitting on a lead.

Jim, No one cracks on the MAC for poorly attended championship games because their home attendances are in the 20K-30K range, and they have no claim to being bigtime.

When the ACC does a neutral site championship and have 20K people show up (actual bodies not paid) it looks silly next to the SEC and Big 12 games.  Using yoru example, how many USF fans would go to washington for a championship game.  10K?  15K?  If we're lucky.  We could make the ACC game look jampacked.  Outside of WVU, UL and RU I would not expect any of the Big East fanbases to show up with more than 10K fans.

Add the fact that some division races aren't decided till the last weekend of the season...fans need to make travel plans to fly with just 4-5 days notice.

Thats why if the Big East ever jumped to 12 teams...they would let the team with the best Conf record HOST the game...so the Big East doesn't end up with embarrassing situation like the ACC.

SEC can get away with it since virtually all teams are within easy drives of ATL...but since the Big East is spread out now...and only will get more spread out if it moves to 12 teams...no way would a neutral site game work during most years.

Think about it...teams get 4-5 weeks to sell bowl tickets and fans get 4-5 weeks to make bowl travel arrangements.

Chances of 10,000-15,000 USF (or UCF) fans flying up to DC or the NYC area on 4-5 days notice for a Champ game?

No way.
