Maybe its just me, but it seems everyone's kinda blowing this up a little.   CJL told Gregory that he might be making a change after the recruiting season.....it would be stupid for Gregory not to sniff around for other opportunities if he knows he might be canned in a few weeks.

I agree I am not a fan of GG. But if it were me I would be looking for a job also.

CJL was right, It all does make sense now.

Canales will be our new OC and I'm ok with that.  He was a very good OC in our early years.  I expect him to elevate our play next year.

ME TOO!         I think that Canales is the perfect fit. he already knows JL and his expectations and also it means no major tweaking to the game plan. a new OC coming in may bring in a new system of which may be a setback for a bit until the O catches on and who would want to see Grothes last year with the Bulls in a rebuilding mode?  NOT ME!

I keep telling you guys, USF needs to start moving that salary scale alot faster than its doing. Yes it is increasing by 100k yearly but so its everyoneelses. In the Miami herald yesterday  it was reported that Oklahoma state wants the UM DC and is offering up to 700k. Now that might seem outrageous but when most OC or DC in BCS teams are being paid in the 250-300k range and ours its around 175k thats a MAJOR difference and why we are losing them to schools like UF for lower job titles.

Did Chico not once leave for greener pastures?   Seems to be the trend.

Apples to Oranges.  We were 1AA about to go 1A independent when Canales left.  We paid horribly back then, compared to poorly now.

Okie State has T. Boone Pickens.

We need to do better but in the Big East I don't think any coordinators are making that much.  I'm more concerned with being competitive in terms of salaries within our conference.  We aren't the highest ( might even be the lowest ) but we aren't that far off in the Big East.

You are brilliant!!! Sure would have been nice if our beat-writer who graduated from UF could have possibly emphasized this a bit more in the article.

FYI, here is what UF's guys got before and after winning the SEC and NC in 2006.  1.398 million in the pool - before the NC.  Obviously things have taken off from there.  Consider we've never even finished 2nd in our conference.

In all, the nine assistants were awarded raises totalling $422,000.

UF assistant coaches' salaries:

Coach 2006 salary 2007 salary

Charlie Strong $215,000 $290,000

Greg Mattison $215,000 $290,000

Dan Mullen $150,000 $200,000

Chuck Heater $145,000 $195,000

Doc Holliday $173,000 $190,000

Steve Addazio $130,000 $170,000

Billy Gonzales $120,000 $170,000

John Hevesy $130,000 $140,000

Stan Drayton $120,000 $135,000

The Gators' TE coach was making 140K in 2007.

I think the bigger issue for Leavitt is that GG wanted to interview for a lower position at a school against whom we do recruit (albeit mostly unsuccesfully except for Ryne Giddins).  Wouldn't you love to hear that out on the recruiting trail, "better to be a position coach at UF than a coordinator at USF."  GG had a right to look as it was clear he may be terminated, but CJL has the right do what he thinks is in the best interests of the team.
