Taylor was the workhorse in Lakeland's Offense, the other running back who is going to Gainesville got all the hype, but, this kid did the majority of the work, running the ball when Lakeland needed a first down or to move the chains.

Exactly what we need. We don't need a Slaton to run for 2 60yd TD's (but won't reject that scenario). We need an RB that will give Grothe 2nd and 5 on a consistent basis. Good QBs make great decisions when faced with 2nd and 5. Grothe is our offensive backbone so whatever can compliment him, we should use.

Saban also addressed the status of freshman running back Jamar Taylor of Lakeland, Fla., who enrolled in school in January and was impressive in spring practice but went home at the end of the spring semester and apparently plans to transfer to South Florida.

"We'll make an announcement relative to that," Saban said. "Jamar is a guy that has personal things where we thought and he thought it would be better for him if he could go closer to home. I think we all agreed with his family on that, so we were all very supportive in helping him to get some place where it was going to be closer to home for him. When that occurs, we'll let everyone know."

hmmm he should probably play baseball for us too then if hes attempting to come here.  he was lakeland high schools best player on the diamond last year (batted like .450) and has a CANNON for an arm from center field.

If he comes in it will be fun to see our young RBs battle it out. The more talent we have the more it will push all of them and depth could be an asset late in a game when you still have great RBs with fresh legs.

Football season can start soon enough.

Looks like it may be close to a done deal. The kid had 10 carries and ran for 44 yards in the spring game. Seems like a solid back. Man, we may have one of the best backfields in the nation before too long.  ;D

Saban was in Montgomery Wednesday speaking to a group of children at the YMCA.

"We'll make an announcement relative to that," Saban told the Advertiser's Tim Gayle Wednesday. "Jamar is a guy that has personal things where we thought and he thought it would be better for him if he could go closer to home. I think we all agreed with his family on that, so we were all very supportive in helping him to get some place where it was going to be closer to home for him. When that occurs, we'll let everyone know."

The University did not respond to a question from BamaMag.com about Taylor's status with the team left on Monday.

It had been widely speculated, including in Wednesday's story in the Advertiser, that Jamar Taylor would transfer to South Florida.

Waiting to hear enrolled in classes before I get too excited, but this is great news if it happens. You can never have too many thoroughbreds in the stable.

Getting him enrolled at USF shouldn't be a problem, seeing as he was already enrolled in classes at Bama.

Thanks to Alabama, we don't have to recruit so heavily. lol Seriously, I am tired of these guys signing elsewhere, THEN deciding to come back and play for USF! We should be their FIRST CHOICE!

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
