Guys, get back on topic.  Too much talk about the Bucs attendence.

AB, maybe you could move the posts about the attendance to General Sports. I need to show HB the error of his ways ....  ;)

Back on topic,  season ticket sales for the Bulls has been rather flat for the past few years... and butts in seats - rather than the figures that the AD posts is what I look at and from where I view it this year was dissappointing.

Hopefully 2007 will see a surge in the number of Bulls fans at the stadium.   Filling the stadium with out of town fans helps the numbers, but IMO shouldn't be viewed as progress.

I never said the stadium was a sellout during the early years only that the area around my seats (west side) was full and that was pretty much the case between the 10s/20s  on that side. IMO the Bucs had a very good following for an expansion team.  Tampa had nothing going for it entertainment way back in those days outside of places like the Tanga Lounge and wrestling at Homer Hesterly ;D

Who really cares about the Bucs anyway...this is a Bulls site.

At the risk of feeling the wrath of Apis, your point about 70's NFL expansion teams being just as popular as 90's expansion teams is indefensible. Compare the first two years attendance of the Bucs to the first two years of Carolina for a prime example .... and I care about the Bucs .... most of the time.  ::)

At the time Seattle was selling out in the 70's the Bucs were playing to half-full stadiums.  We really had little to compare to in the 70's, but by today's standards, and even those standards the Bucs did about average.

Just for the record it took about 25 years for the city of Tampa to really embrace the Bucs.

I mentioned the BUCS to try to put into perspective for USF fans how quickly the empire (USF Football) has risen and to show that real fan bases do take some time to develop.  The BUCS in their first year were in the big time (NFL) they didn't have to work their way up through the ranks and build respectability.  They were in the top 25 in their first season.  This is not an apples to apples comparison but I some times think fans forget to enjoy the journey and are always looking ahead to the prize at the end of the road that they might never be able to get.

There are bunches of college football programs out there that wish they were in the position that USF is.   Every time a university starts a new football program they want to be like USF and get  to a bowl game in their first 100 games.

I have been talking about USF football every time college football comes up in a conversation ever since I saw Blackwell and Leavitt rip Bowling Green and Urban Meyers a new one.   Show the rest of the world your passion for USF football and trust me others will follow.   Especially when you are at the games bring it and bring it strong.

I agree I would love to see more butts in the seats and especially more students at the games.  I don't live close enough to Tampa to make more than one home game a year but every time I have been back I have felt the passion building.   At the papajohns.com bowl I was getting goose bumps at the end of the game when our fans were going crazy.   I am looking forward to more of that...

Can someone tell me where this low income garbage comes from when talking about the Tampa Bay area.  My wife works for one of the largest banks in the country and the Tampa Bay area ranks very high for overall wealth and amount on deposit.  It actually ranks #1 in the southeast market.  They have more wealth strategists working with clients in the Bay Area than any other market in the southeast.

2ndly, maybe its because I live in the New Tampa area, but there are a lot of pretty wealthy and upper middle class all over the place.  South Tampa is very wealthy.

Plus we lead the nation in job growth.  The company I work for moved here  2 years ago and the average salary in the building is $72K and with bonuses it well exceeds $100K average per emplyee.

Are there poor people here?  Yes, but there are also a lot of very wealthy people here with a lot of disposable income.  Why do you think there are so many new retailers popping up everywhere?  And look at the malls in the area. They are always packed.  You can go to the Citrus Park Mall at noon on a Wednesday in May and its packed.

The average income #'s  are scewed in the area due to the retiree crowd that is living on small pensions and social security.

Pinellas having a disposable income?  Since when?  I really question your knowledge of the bay area, in 1974 Pinellas was known more for it's trailer parks then high income wealth.

Oh right!  There was nothing but poor trailer dwellers living in places like Belleair, Belleair Shores, Maderia Beach, North Reddington Beach, Snell Isle, Point Brittany, Bayway Isles, Isla del Sol...I suppose it was those was those poor people from the trailer parks who made up the membership of Belleair Country Club, Sunset Golf and Country Club, Lakewood Country Club and the Pasadena Yacht & Country Club.....Fore!

It is going to be very tough to draw fans to USF games now that Tom Viet has left. He was a marketing genious. Just ask him, he will tell you.
