From coaching club basketball in AZ - a lot.

it would be similar to pissing off a high school coach.

Not that familiar with this process so how much influence do these teams have over their players in regards to "sending" them places?

I'd say rather little.   The biggest thing would be if these guys were reaching out to programs to help promote their guys and get them looks.  I guess they could bypass USF, but if these players are that good then USF knows about them and it wouldn't be very smart to just up and eliminate a D1 program.   From what I've heard from a few pretty good ballplayers, top tier promises a lot more help with recruiting than they deliver anyway.  Which is probably par for the course with most of these for profit travel ball programs

more like pissing off an aau coach in comparison to basketball, but again why would a coach limit his player's opportunities?   I know of 4 or 5 situations personally in the past few years where D1 schools pulled offers.  I know one kid that was sent home by FSU a couple of years ago for being a minute late to a team meeting at like 6 am in the first few weeks of school.   This is not something that only USF would do and as was pointed out by the OP, the kid was short classes anyway so maybe that is why USF pulled their offer.  We have several players right now that played for top travel ball teams.   top tier isn't special and their hurting their players if they are cutting off USF not the other way around.  I'd take my son somewhere else if a travel ball coach said he wouldn't talk to any D1 school.

They apparently have no influence at all.  This kid is from the top tier program and is a freshman this year.  Go Bulls!

Egos?

You didn't read how Strong (I think it was) pissed off all the high school coaches?  The coaches simply guide their players elsewhere - for any reason.  If you don't think there's a chance as good as USF...

Theoretically, in your thinking, you are correct.  Real world, not so much.  And it's not all club coaches, so let's drop that extreme.

Why do college coaches hire AAU coaches?  To get their players and their pipeline.

Brutcher is back?  For some reason thought he was done.

Daniel Cantu was our big piece and team leader to transferred to FSU in the off-season. CBM is a pitching coach by trade, so we need to see a big step forward on the mound this year. That includes weekdays. Can't drop the Tuesday night game against UNF only to get swept over the weekend series to a team like Northeastern. We should be competitive in Baseball - enough to host a regional.
