The more I read the more I like the Ryan Odom. Guy. Winner with good pedigree. Major upset in tournament. Cheap.

If you asked Ryan Odom, he'd say: "Yeah . . . hire Mike Brey. I'll still be around in the few years and it'll be a much better job then."

If its Odom it wouldn't be the worst hire. At least he has HC experience, took two different teams to the NCAAT, plus recent success in a decent conference ( mountain west). Certainly a better choice then Capko and Greenberg

Just believe we could have made a better hire. This hire would just feel like meh at best for me.

I'm pretty sure that Greenberg thing was just JK trying to be funny (we can only hope) but failed miserably ....

Experience at USF and Lenoir-Rhyne.  What more could I ask for?

Let's play guess the coach . . .

COACH ONE:

First seven years as a mid-major head coach

Record: 141-85

Highest conference finish: 1st, 2nd (twice)

Postseason: 2 NCAA, 1 NIT

COACH TWO:

First eight years as a mid-major head coach

Record: 172-94

Highest conference finish: 1st, 2nd (twice)

Postseason: 2 NCAA, 3 NIT - 1 NIT championship

He was the HC at UMBC a few years back when they were the first #16 seed to upset a #1 seed (Virginia) in the tournament. I remember that well. He’s had success and has turned around teams. Ryan Odom is worth giving a chance.

Coach 1 is Ryan Odom, Coach 2 is Brian Gregory. CBG was a good hire for me. He just never got the job done at USF. It doesn’t mean that a coach with a similar kind of coaching record can’t do it. Can never compare two human men and expect the same results of future behavior based on their comparative pasts. You assess their past, listen to them speak in the present, and take a gamble on their future. Sometimes it works out, other times you need to fire them and move on to the next opportunity for success.
