GAME DAY vs. UCF

 

USF will look to end a 14-game skid vs. ranked foes, 12-game AAC losing skid and 5-game losing streak in the War on I-4 Saturday as freshman quarterback Byrum Brown makes his second career start vs. No. 25 UCF following a sterling debut in which the USF offense set a season high in yards (499) and matched a season-high in points (42). The freshman will take the reins on a Senior Day that will honor 17 Bulls pregame. USF will be looking for its first win the War on I-4 series since a 48-31 victory in Tampa in 2016. The Bulls will also be looking for their first AAC win since Oct. 23, 2021 at Temple (34-14) and first victory against a ranked foe since beating No. 22 Navy (52-45) in 2016 in Tampa.

FREAKY FRIDAY: In the 13-game history of the War on I-4 series, all of USF's six wins have come in Saturday (5) or Thursday (1) games, including the Bulls’ last victory in 2016 (48-31) on a Saturday in Tampa. All seven of UCF's wins have come in Friday games. The last nine games have been the last game of the regular season for both teams.

BATTIE SEEKS RECORD 5 STRAIGHT 100 YARD GAMES: RB Brian Battie has posted 100-yard games in his last four outings as he increased his season rushing total to 1,042, just the 10th 1,000-yard season (6th player) in program history. He eyes the USF record of five-straight 100-yard games held by Jordan Cronkrite (2018), Quinton Flowers (2016) and Marlon Mack (2015. His six 100-yard games on the year rank tied for fourth in a season at USF, one away from tying Marlon Mack (7, 2016) for third. His 6.64 ypc ranks No. 7 nationally and is on pace for a top 5 season at USF, while his 94.7 yards per game rank 20th nationally/2nd in the AAC and are just shy of a top five season at USF.

TAMPA, NOV. 21, 2022– Fans clad in USF Green and Gold can enjoy over $55,000 in giveaway items, including a pair of Taylor Swift Eras Tour concert tickets, Saturday when USF and UCF collide for the 14^th meeting of the War on I-4 before a national television audience at Raymond James Stadium.
 
The Bulls will honor 17 seniors prior to the 7 p.m. kickoff on ESPN2 and prizes will be flowing at the gates and in the stands throughout the contest.
 
Fans in attendance and wearing USF Green and Gold will receive prizes at the gates and throughout the game, with prize breaks at every timeout and quarter break rewarding fans in the stands. Lucky rows will be rewarded with USF Athletics gear, bobbleheads, PDQ gift cards, Busch Gardens tickets, ZooTampa tickets, The Florida Aquarium tickets, Fanatics gift cards, free Bubble Down Car Washes, Dunkin Donuts coupons, and other promotional items for fans wearing USF Green and Gold seated in selected rows.
 
Premium prizes will be awarded randomly to fans attending the game and confirmed to be wearing USF Green and Gold. Premium prizes include: Two (2) tickets to Taylor Swift's Eras Tour at Raymond James Stadium (April 13-15), a 65-inch smart television, a Nintendo Switch gaming system, an Apple watch, Cirque Musica tickets, Katt Williams tickets, Harlem Globetrotter tickets and Tampa Bay Lightning tickets. Fans must be present at the game and wearing USF Green and Gold to receive prizes at the gates or in seating rows as well as to be eligible for premium prize drawings.
 
There will also be an Allstate halftime field goal kick for one USF student to win $1,000.
 
USF will honor 17 seniors and their families on the field before the game. The seniors honored will be:
DEFENSE: LB Dwayne Boyles, S Vincent Davis, DT Darrien Grant, CB Josh Green, DT Jatorian Hansford, S Mekhi LaPointe, DT Rashawn Yates, DT Jbril Glaze, DT De'Juan Sease;
OFFENSE: C Brad Cecil, G Demetris Harris, T Demontrey Jacobs, WR Latrell Williams, OL Brock Parry, O Alec Valet;
SPECIAL TEAMS: LS Andrew Beardall, P Colin McCreary
 
Among the group are top eight all-time leading tackler (7^th, 308) and career games played (53) leader Dwayne Boyles. Career starts record holder Demetris Harris (52), five-year starting center Brad Cecil (49 starts), starting tackle Demontrey Jacobs (24 starts) will also be honored as will starting defensive tackles Rashawn Yates (30 starts), Jatorian Hansford (8 starts) and Darrien Grant (7 starts), starting safety Mekhi LaPointe (26 starts), as well as long snapper Andrew Beardall (20 games played). Former safety Vincent Davis, who made 20 career starts and was second on the team in tackles in 2021, will also be honored after being medically disqualified from competing this year.

Five years ago we drove to UCF where we lost a great game....one of the most exciting ever for me. It was the end of our run. If we can pull the upset tonight with Brown at QB it will make the offseason much easier. And certainly will help in the coach recruitment process. Hopefully it marks the beginning or our comeback.
