I am saying the Big Ten has no interest in FSU.  They want better quality academic institutions and AAU membership has usually been a pre-requisite.  With big names like USC, Michigan, Ohio State, etc in the pipeline, market size means more.  Rutgers, for instance, has much better TV ratings since joining as does Maryland.  The Big Ten MAKES you attractive.  There's an argument that UNC and Duke may be the most attractive to them in the ACC - academics and basketball pedigree and a growing market in the triangle.  Miami brings academics - though the football is not to the level it has been.  Brings a big market.

Much depends USF's performance.  With the AAU creds, new facilities, and winning - USF would become appealing in a few years.  They need to win, though.

Only media money matters.

They’ll invite whoever can help them cash the biggest checks. AAU, doesn’t matter. FSU has a good academic reputation, just might not be as big in research spending.

(USF will never be invited to the big 10)

Hear me out.

AAC is $7 Mil per year.  That would be $49M that SMU would have to actually replace... their donors could do that no problem.

Plus SMU would get a larger CFP slice... and more money from NCAA tournament units.

The ACC "TV" deal is only about $17-$20 Million per year... the rest comes from the post-season and NCAA money to get up to $30 million.

Doesn't it?  Rather make no broadcast money for 7 years (and probably pay an exit fee to AAC) just to get out of the AAC.

A group of ACC presidents met Wednesday morning to discuss finances, the source said.

What would irk me if I was SMU is the fact that Stanford and Cal would get preferential treatment, but from SMU's standpoint it would still be a no brainer. ACC vs AAC, that's a strong contrast in my opinion, and in the long run they will benefit; and that's even if the ACC loses teams in the near future. The leg up that SMU would have against current American conference teams would be immeasurable.

Big 10 is repulsed by us.  They took our Tony Dungy presentation and threw it in the metaphorical trash.

**Edit I thought you meant our nemesis Big 12.

If SMU gets in, that leaves   Rice as the only team from the old Southwest Conference left out.
