The real reason for the expansion exercise.  Each team just scammed an extra $1million/year.

Nah, each team only gets 1 mil total. $125k a year. If that's how it works anyways.

According to Marc Daniels here in Orlando, that is $10 million total, not $10 mil per year.

Those idiots in the Big 12 sold off a clause worth near a billion dollars for a mere $10mil.  Stupid.  They couldn't get Texas and Oklahoma to at least play the game and pretend they were for expansion.

ESPN will pay Big 12 $10m total over remainder of agreement to remove pro rata clause. Fox will not increase pay – will keep its pro rata.

Further proof that the Big12 is about as dysfunctional as they come.  I'm sure ESPN said, "listen, don't expand, take this $10 mil bump now, and we'll take care of you in the next TV contract" and the Big12 was like, "Okay, gee ESPN, you sure are swell"

Why is ESPN against expansion?  Doesn't it get their horrific products into more US households?

It was against having to pay significantly more under the current Big-12 contract for expansion.

The "Simple Jack" of college football is the Big12 ("they can't even count mama").
