No matter what happens, I'm pleased that USF is giving this much effort. That's really all I ever wanted, because it's all we can really control.  Now it's up to the Big XII to make the right choice.

Hall of Fame coach Tony Dungy was part of South Florida's pitch to the Big 12 and former major league first baseman Tino Martinez also went to bat for the Bulls.

The Big 12 on Friday concluded a week of meetings in North Texas with the 11 schools vying to join the conference. USF, Cincinnati and Rice made the final presentations, according to three people with knowledge of the meetings who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

The people spoke on condition of anonymity because the conference was keeping its meetings confidential.

According to a person familiar with USF's pitch, Tampa Bay Lightning owner Jeffrey Vinik was part of the team sent to Texas and the presentation included a video with Dungy and Martinez endorsing the Bulls.

Very curious to see whether Dungy, Martinez, and Vinik involvement causes the local media snark level re USF/Big XII to come down a notch. Fennelly vs. USF is less offensive than Fennelly vs. USF + Dungy + Vinik IMHO.  We'll see.  I expect a change in tone, but who knows.

Sources are reporting that UCF's pitch involved: rubbing their Fiesta Bowl win in Baylor's face and referring to them as "b_tches"; talking up the importance of Conference USA Championships and downplaying losses to USF during those seasons; things to do while sitting in traffic on I-4 and SR-50; a great local bar that is likely to give out free beer in future seasons; and ways to avoid burning yourself on the aluminum bleachers at the frying pan. As a coup de gras, O'Leary was wheeled in from his drunken stupor and screamed at those in attendance about his degree from NYU until somebody passed out and needed emergency rescue. Due to the lack of substance, the presentation was UCFast.

Having Vinik was huge. Imagine if Higgins and Vinik were there. That would have been powerful. Dungy is a respected individual so hopefully he has some good pull
