AAC commissioner Mike Aresco told Gridiron Now’s Tony Barnhart this week that the league has begun “contingency planning for just about every scenario.” “I’ve been talking to the (athletic directors) and the president of the schools that might leave, and it looks like some of them will,”

Not sure why this hasn't garnered more discussion. It's basically confirming that more than 1 AAC school is out, and is a stretch phrasing for 2, so likely looking at a "few". This is great for a couple reasons:

1. The more AAC schools that are taken, the more likely we're included. This is an obviously great scenario.

2. If we're not taken, the more schools that are taken, the more exit fees that are distributed to remaining conference members. We have a pretty good pay day from WVU / Pitt / Syracuse / UL leaving already, more of that will help float our athletic department for a few more years of spending like the P5.

If we get in, I can't wait to explain how we're USF (but located in central Florida) and in the Big 12 (but has 14 teams) to layman fans.

It could also mean that if asked, then some will leave.  It doesn't mean they will be asked.  That remains to be seen unless it has already been done, but then the Big 12 teams wouldn't have to vote on it, would they?

Go Bulls!

I hope you're right, but I think you're reading a wee bit too much into the verbage of it. I read it as, 'quite a few teams seem ready to leave, so we have replacement teams ready for each possible scenario'. I don't think anything is set yet. But everything is speculation until its not

Maybe that has been our real secret business model.   Get in league with programs destined to move on so we can cash in when they leave.

You have to balance the short term cash influx with the inevitable lower TV revenue, worse bowl games, lower ticket/merchandise sales, and lowered donations of being in a picked apart league. I guess it is better than nothing...

I would be delighted to do this.  It would involve a horse laugh and a "suck it" gesture for starters.

Looking at Aresco's comments in the USA Today, the AAC may only be losing two teams. This could be because neither UT or OU want to sign an extended GOR and this is causing even more division to decide on adding four teams total. If this is the case I bet the AAC stays at ten teams and we would be one of them.

Would it be like Eric's weasel laugh?

Quote

"ESPN and Fox Sports believe that expansion with schools from outside the power five conferences will water down the Big 12 and make it less valuable, not more, sources said."

I also heard about a possible announcement that they won't expand because of lack of qualified schools.
