In Thursday's Trib:

Quarterback From Miami Commits To Bulls

TAMPA - -- Miami Booker T. Washington QB Alwan Lee, who nearly led his club to an upset at Armwood in last year's Class 4A state semifinals, verbally committed to the University of South Florida.

Lee (6-0, 171) also considered Auburn, Houston, Indiana and South Carolina.

"He committed to USF because they said they will give him an opportunity to play quarterback," Washington coach Tim Harris said. "The other schools want him at another position."

In last year's 36-35 loss at Armwood, Lee completed 23 of 29 for 302 yards and four TDs and rushed for 151 yards on 21 carries.

Lee is USF's second verbal commitment along with Largo RB Dexter McCluster.

sounds like a broken record

maybe this kid should consider another school

we say we'll give him a chance to play QB right now, but then we'll switch him to receiver or something

I'd really like to see us recruit a gun slinger with a big time arm. I don't care if our QBs can scramble, we have backs and wideouts for that. We should go for some variety in our stable of QBs.

Anyone who can put up those kind of numbers against Armwood's team from last year has to be a hell of a football player.  And as far as his height,  it did not seem to bother Marquel.

Height? Who cares... see Doug Flutie. I'd take Doug Flutie any day and twice when we are playing Pitt  8)

If this kid is cool under pressure, no "deer in the headlights", medium arm, touch on the ball, some scrambling ability, smart... I'll take a chance on him.
