  1. Either the school makes every player write out a weekly schedule, fill it in, and sign it, or this comment is ridiculous. How can a coach be expected to follow up on all players? That's why there are so many incidents. Maybe schools need to hire people who are essentially "babysitters". They will keep tabs on the aforementioned schedule, occasionally audit a student's signed activities to ensure they are actually doing what they say, and otherwise watch student athletes as much as possible. Actually, as ridiculous as that sounds, it would probably have saved some schools a lot of money in court rulings, suspension losses, etc. It might actually be worth it, sadly.
  2. Show me a fan base without unrealistic expectations, and the only fan base i'll probably see will be that of the detroit lions. Also, if players don't expect to win and play to win in every game, it's pointless. Basically, anybody who is a fan or player of a team should expect a win every week, and accept the losses when the come (and if players, grow from them...something only some programs seem good at).
  3. I did nothing but pick favorites in my facebook bracket, with UNC winning it all over Kansas (man did I have my hopes up not too long ago). So yeah, a final four of all 1 seeds, without a single upset all tournament. Wherever that would place me, just stick me in there with an asterisk or penciling or something. You can even replace the somewhat awesomeness that is my handle with something along the lines of "total ass", considering I seldom care about basketball anyway, but still joined tons of facebook pools with a favorites only bracket.
  4. That's true, the words annoy me, but he at least managed to get our opponents right in his argument . I'm more used to idiots...even those who live in Tampa...who assume USF sucks, and when asked what our record is, don't know! I've had a good bit of fun with FSU/Miami fans that fall into this category in the past year...wonder why ;D.
  5. Nothing against Blackwell, but Grothe plus anyone makes for the best two-deep USF has ever seen. How would that be anything against Blackwell? Exactly who was behind him in any given year that would merit making that 2 deep stronger ? Unless you could clone Blackwell and use him twice, that would still be a better 2 deep. Just to add to the creepyness, you'd have to number them 1 and 2.
  6. I did absolutely nothing but pick favorites in my bracket. I have UNC winning it all over OSU in a final four of only 1 seeds. So just put me in like that =P.
  7. Excellent, instead of focusing on his own team and current situation, he will be enjoying NYC & good basketball, I guess those perks come with the job. Now if he is up there recruiting assistant coaches than I am all for it. Assistant coaches? Hell, he might even be shopping the coaching pool there for head coaches. Either way, his going up there shouldn't be viewed as a bad thing. A bad thing is if he keeps RMC.
  8. E A G L E S! It's not like Dhani Jones and Barber have been tearing it up. Also, from what I heard they may be giving the starting MLB job to Omar Gaither...Trotter is slowing down :( . With that in mind, and the fact that they traded away a LB last season to get stallworth, Philly isn't an impossible destination for Nicholas.
  9. The Eagles are awesome. So is USF. I like that Philly has given a couple USF players a chance.
  10. He's a sportswriter...isn't he? At least it's pub.
  11. 11 months of heat......you're refering to the 70 and 80 degree highs from the months of October to May as HEAT. Have fun with your bag of rock salt. ;D Hmmmmmm.........how often have we seen "70 and 80 degree highs" in those months (not counting December-February)? Give me a break....I remember almost dying of heat stroke in my pads in October, and November. And I also remember it being wickedly hot & humid for Spring ball as well (March & April). There is virtually no relief in Central/South Florida from the heat. And by the way, rock salt? Richmond aint exactly Detroit, bro. We have all four seasons here, none of which are extreme. It's the best of both worlds, weather-wise. Waaah waaah waah. One can learn to deal with a slight discomfort due to weather, unless your health is failing you or something, but then Florida is a good place for that. And yes, I played in the heat for 4 years too. Summer football/track training was probably the worst for me actually, since it involves waking up early in the morning and being outside around noon instead of 2:30 or 3ish. Obviously, I never played college ball, but it's not like the heat gets tougher in college, just the players. It sucks, and you have to drink enough water, but other than that it really isn't that big of a deal. Traffic IS a serious issue in Tampa. The only place I have been to that is worse is Miami. Between gawkers, morons who can't drive in the rain, and the "24/7 sunday drivers", way too many roads turn into logjams. I often wish I had a magic button that would completely catapult anybody who gawk's car off the road. Maybe one of those springloaded cartoonish things. As far as work goes, you go where your job is in demand, unless you have a commitment to stay somewhere else. In that case, you just have to decide what your priorities are.
  12. NCAA 07 for xbox 360 is about 5 or 10 or even 50 times better than 06, which is hands down the worst one in the series so far. In 06, there is no such thing as defense at competitive play levels. Pick your Vick, Young, etc and get scrambling/optioned. The SECOND you force them out of cover 4, the !@#$y corner jamming system lets the wideouts beat EVERYTHING on the go route. Yep, cover 3, man under 2, etc all get beaten by the go route, and if you try to come up on the running QB, you're going to get juked, pitched, or juked then pitched. And if that didn't work, there was alwasy the glitch where the center snapped the ball sideways through the entire offensive line to a receiver in a trips formation, who proceeded to run what essentially was an "instant teleport snap screen". Try stopping that... Of course I did that offense too too. If you didn't want to be a scrubby loser you had to. But the existence of that offense being that strong removed just about all strategic depth to the game. Most serious players just ran that, and the player who one was the better runner of that offense/open field tackler/user stripper. Honest to god, I played about 1/3 of my games vs players in the top 1000 (which I was, although unlike 05 i was NOT 38th), where the winner was decided ENTIRELY by who had more user strips or user picks. Neither of us were ever forced to punt or kick a field goal! Does that sound like a good version of football to you? I suggest putting that year's NCAA in the microwave for about 3 seconds. By the way, madden on the new generation is one of the best so far. It suffers from only one known iffy play, where a scrambling QB like vick, mcnabb, etc can run really far backwards, direct a receiver using RT and LT, and watch the deep zone safeties just let him go. Man won't stop that either, so you have to get to the QB, which can certainly be done though. I usually use CB blitzes, QB trap plays, or the occasional end control mixed with line backer blitz if those scrambles are getting too pass wacky. No "instant teleport snap screens" in this version, thank god.
  13. Should 1. Matt Grothe 2. Trae Williams 3. Ben Moffitt Freshmen, IIRC, are NEVER impact players in NCAA, nor should they be. Ford might have been badass before coming to D 1-A, but until you can prove yourself at this level, prior stats mean little. TJ on the other hand has proven himself to be a viable deep threat and speed guy for us, and Moffitt and Grothe need no explanation. Nonetheless, Williams had more than a couple impressive plays on the perimeter for us last season, so I feel he deserves it too. Besides, impact corners are really nice to have in NCAA because you can take away certain kind of gay routes and cause the running backs to fumble with them . Note that you can cause RB's to fumble with any impact players, but typically corners don't. USER STRIP! Will 1. Matt Grothe 2. Taurus Johnson 3. Ben Moffitt/Selvie/Williams...Hard to be sure of the defender chosen...but probably Moffitt just because of his tackles.
  14. Would an Afroman mp3 sent be in bad taste? Probably. He screwed up. We're going to have to let it go.
  15. He's still dumb as a stump for not differentiating the two ... And here I was thinking he was dumb as a stump due to where he learned his material 8-).
  16. I don't think a great deal of people liked the clock rules. It bothered me especially because exactly how long the refs wait before signaling "ready for play" is NOT uniform. They don't even have to be biased to accidently give a team more or less time. Hell, circumstances could force it, like the ball being near the line of scrimmage vs it being wayyyyy out there. I like the ways they are considering, particularly the 40 second clock (less line of scrimmage and bizarre formation shifts dancing most likely) and the kickoffs from the 30 yards, making returners and special teams a lot more relevant.
  17. No way, a one loss SEC team, OSU, UM, FSU, Texas, OU, Cal etc. would still be much more highly ranked than USF would It would be nearly impossible for a team that starts the season unranked to climb to the national championship, especially form the Big East which still has not fully shed the weak image from the conference moves. Maybe the SEC, but if you seriously think the ACC is more competitive than the BE to merit a 1-loss team jumping an undefeated team you're insane. Depending on the rotation, the same could be said for the bit 12 (although that more counts for the north). And the Big 10? You know, most objective ways to rank conferences put the big east in the top 3 conferences last year. On top of this, our OOC is actually useful because beating Auburn would get us the ranking we needed early on...but if we lose to them we can stop thinking about NC and focus on cheering for the BE title. It DOES kind of suck that we will be playing about 3-4 ranked teams though.
  18. I'll take PJ's effect on the team over JJ's anyday. PJ was nearly as big as Josh...who knows what kind of monster he'd have been if he played a different position. But, for whatever reason we needed him where we had him. He worked hard and set an example of his team, one his brother probably should have followed.
  19. Easier schedule. By the way, us listed at 300-1 and field at 50-1 means that they are saying we are only 1/6 less likely to win the championship than EVERY SINGLE UNLISTED TEAM COMBINED. The are also saying that UF is 5x more likely to win it than every field team combined. Still, it's nice to show up. In each season, I want those odds to shrink until they're on par with the other top teams.
  20. People who like to hit probably don't like pass plays as much in reality. It's pretty hard to lay a beating-class hit down on someone while backing up a little bit. Even this guy said it without saying it. He really likes to pull...which means 2 things. He loves to build momentum before clobbering someone, and he favors run plays...which are pretty much the only time someone would pull.
  21. I'm surprised you didn't mentions Johnson. He's young, but he already has as much PT as a lot of the guys listed. I hate that he went to Cape, but he made up for it by coming here.
  22. Agreed. Actually, you won't find many people in disagreement with that assertion. Even worse than firing him was firing him after every good candidate already got snapped up. If you're going to do something stupid, why make it even stupider by waiting until the worst time? The only way this move gets beaten in the "stupid firing" department is if Belichick gets fired or the Colts cut Manning straight to free agency or something.
  23. We need to SERIOUSLY run them out of the stadium, and do it with our backups after the first quarter. Looking past teams is a fan luxury, and I don't think the OP plays. However, using FIU is an example isn't very accurate. FIU is 1-A, and significantly better than E lawn.
