Not what I was expecting. Pleasantly surprised. I thought fore sure he was going to ask for more than that in year 1

Wow, that assistant pool is beautiful. Willie's assistant pool was $2.6m in his final year. Charlie's was $1.6m in year one, and $3.4m this year per a WTSP 10 article.

Not bad. Seems to go along with some consensus from Clemson folks and those who know him that he will rely on an OC to actually call plays perhaps and will use the money to bring in and/or keep good assistants on staff.

Also, I know most will say you never turn down more money, but perhaps he's a good humble guy and isn't looking for the big bucks payday (or knows if he earns it he'll enjoy it at that time), in order to have that money for his staff.

About as good as you can ask for. 

Seems like Jeff genuinely wants to be here. He may leave, we may get that $2m. We may be in a Taggart situation where he doesn't get that trophy in 3 years and leaves after (for less of a buyout). Who knows. But at least he seems like he wants to do this and wants to be here.

But I think this makes sense.

How on earth were we able to get him a larger salary pool for assistants than we could give Willie and Charlie?

Also FWIW, this is more than we paid Willie but less than what we paid Skip (and obviously Charlie).

Charlie was scheduled to get the same this year

He was scheduled to get .1 less, his first year was nearly 2 million less (which itself was a million less than Willie’s final year).

Its expected for the salary pool to progressively increase. Starting Scott’s assistant pool higher than we’ve ever given any coach is a financially bold move. I do expect it to pay off in spades. I’m just surprised how much we’re giving.
