Did anyone else notice the band playing "neck" multiple times during the ECU game? I for one thought it was awesome, but nobody else seemed to notice. This has been one of the most controversial but best band songs over the last few seasons, so I was surprised they played it. Pleasantly surprised. The full song is "Talkin' Out the Side of Your Neck" by Cameo.

The controversy comes into play because LSU told their band to stop playing the song back in 2013, but O'dell Beckham attended a game and convinced them to play the song after he agreed to pay the fine. Video of the LSU band playing the song is here:

I am too lazy to figure out what any of this means.

The lyrics are political and stick it to "The Man".

for some reason I don't think most USF fans are familiar with Cameo... maybe "Word Up" or "Candy"... students are too young, older alums probably prefer The Eagles. Lol.

Not unusual to be heard in the utopian fantasy that is University. The Western Culture upon which "The Man" is planted is what makes this a nice place to live.  The Noble Savage is a myth.

Talking Out the Side of Your Neck (Studio Recorded Marching Band Version)

i actually like the marching band version a lot more than the original, musically speaking.

this is a staple at a lot of HBCU's

What's the issue with this song?

If my memory serves me right, I believe that people were upset when college bands began playing the song because as @TRUTH D. Antagonist mentioned, it is a staple of a lot of HBCU's. Additionally, it used to be quite popular at LSU games and the students there came up with their own inappropriate lyrics, which caused the President of the university at the time to tell the band they couldn't play it anymore.
