He was the OC when USF went to Morgantown and beat #7 West Virginia. Then at the end of the season, Rich Rod snatched up Rod Smith from USF. Bear in mind Rich and Rod and worked together in the past. I think they tried to show cause, that he created a hostile work environment, walking around the office in a towel, but not sure how that ended up. I should know, it's out here in the desert, but I didn't care. It was no "hot dog" environment out here...if you know what I mean. So the other Rod, of the Smith variety, I certainly remember. I did not realize he was at Illinois, but I did see that Hardy Nickerson was there. Interesting confluence of Tampa football people at Illinois. Hey Brad--- how tempted are you to merge this thread with ..... What one USF loss made/makes you the most upset? just kidding-- interesting to know he is at Illinois now. I never had an axe to grind about him but some people on here used to absolutely hate his play calling-- he was our OC for that 2004 Army game iirc

He was a good guy, Voodoo 5 notwithstanding.

Very last game of the season and an ECU win would mean CUSA wouldn't have enough bowl eligible teams and let us slide into the spot with a 9-2 record. 9-2 and we didn't get a bowl bid. Ridiculous. It was one of those teams at the bottom of the schedule.... https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/conferences/cusa/2002-schedule.html can't recall the specifics though Edited September 11, 2018 by MikeG

And I think it would have been the Hawaii Bowl.
