Puk had friday night starts and was supposed the be the man.  The gators had the luxury of depth that we don't have.

You can interpret his overall performance anyway you want, but to say he has had only 1 outstanding start is hate.  He hasn't been as good in conference play as we would all like, but he still has 8 starts of allowing 1 earned run (3 in conference) or less.  That's outstanding regardless to anyone being truly objective.

Shore started every Friday until tourney play when the rotation became obsolete. He also started their first super regional  game and the Coastal Carolina game. Puk was the highest draft pick, Shore was the man of the staff. We don't have the depth they had, which is why we can't afford the breakdowns.

Our ace struggles with the basic job of a pitcher, which is to throw a strike. That doesn't make me very confident. It makes me feel like the foundation will crumble when the post season begins.

Shane is good. There's no doubt. He just hasn't been consistently good like you need out of your Friday starter. We've had a lot of Friday starters over the years with lesser stuff, but they gave us good outings every week (Mark Roberts, John Gorham, Casey Hudspeth, Randy Fontanez, etc.) - outings you could count on. I think we were all hoping for that from Shane. If he was more consistent on Fridays, we'd be having a pretty dominant season in the league. We'd probably be 15-5 right now.

Well yeah, if he pitched better we'd be better.  But like I pointed out above, we've also taken 2 L's on fridays in which he gave up 1 earned run.  So we could say, if we hit more consistently, we'd be 14-6 right now or if pitched better and we hit better we'd be 20-0.  Or if a frog had wings, he wouldn't bump his ass on the ground.   Bottom line, we would like SM to be better, but he has been very good in 9 of 12 starts and stunk up the joint in 3 and we're still sitting in 3rd in the conference with a NCAA tournament locked up.  Not bad for a team with only 2 legit starters and a fairly young, inexperienced staff outside those two and Perez

Assuming you have it handy, how many total IP in those 8 starts?

Bottom line is if we had a true ace we could be winning this conference.
