For some of the schools they are not over paid if they win imo. Revenues go up and they could pay for themselves. This applies only to the big money schools. 

TAMU has taken the No. 1 spot for athletic revenues since joining the SEC. 

Revenue: $194.3 Million 

Expenses: $137.1 Million

 

$57 Million is from rights and licensing. IF Jimbo wins and you get a 15% bump in rights and licensing he will pay for himself. IF he doesn't win well TAMUs contract does seem like a big liability and the oil money will step up to help fire him after 5 years and won't bat an eye. 

 

In a few years 7.5 million/year won't be that much in the coaching salary world so the ten year contract may be good to lock in a price. Jimbo may negotiate raises if he is winning, but if he is winning then he has paid for himself.
