Dad Vail Regatta is the largest college rowing event in the US.  Event is in Philly along Boat House Row.  Its a party for sure.

Correct! It is the super bowl for collegiate rowing. I lived on Pennsylvania Ave back in the day and used to walk over to the Schuylkil River to watch. Schools from all over the nation competed.

I believe you mean the SureKill River.  That was its nickname back in the day.

It would be great to bring back swimming, as well.

USF will never be BCS in rowing unless we have an On Campus Lake OCL

After reading about the facility, that would be a great spot for them.  It's closer to the campus than Ft Hamer.  They're scheduled to host the 2017 World Rowing Championships, the 2018 World Masters Regatta, the 2018, 2021, and 2022 NCAA Divisions I, II, and, III Women's Rowing Championships

Yes and Benderson Park is right off the highway, so it's a major Sarasota landmark at this point. The only concern I have is parking. If there are a lot of people who want to come watch the championships, they will struggle to host a crowd of more than 1000.

Does Florida have high school rowing? I assume it does, almost all high schools in New England do and the kids do get recruited.

I think the county public schools that have a club are Plant and Hillsborough.  Academy of Holy Names, Berkeley, TC, and Tampa Prep have teams that go to different regattas during the Spring.  My niece rowed for Tampa Prep for one season.

I think part of it was Sarasota lobbying for someone who could use Benderson Park down here. It's going to be used for Olympic trials, so the rowing team will be able to use that as a recruiting tactic. The facilities are already there, just a matter of setting up the team.

US Rowing Youth Nationals are often held at Benderson Park.
