USF NCAA Women's Rowing

USF Athletics has received approval to launch an NCAA Women’s Rowing team hosted in the Sarasota-Manatee community! Through the support of generous donors and community leaders like yourself, our community could soon be the full-time home for an NCAA Division I Athletics program. Over the next year USF Athletics, in partnership with USF Sarasota-Manatee and its Rowing Steering Committee, will be working with individuals like you to cultivate the support that a program like this requires. We are eager to engage this community and build on its passion for rowing.

Hugh sport up here in New England, almost every college has a men/women's row team. USF has a great location to practice and be competitive. Good luck to women's program!

That will be cool.  My guess is that they would practice on the Manatee River.  If so, that would mean I'd be able to check them out from time to time.

That would probably be ideal.  I don't know if they'd use that or create their own, "track"

I think part of it was Sarasota lobbying for someone who could use Benderson Park down here. It's going to be used for Olympic trials, so the rowing team will be able to use that as a recruiting tactic. The facilities are already there, just a matter of setting up the team.

Isn't that more set up for water skiing now?

Never mind. I just looked it up.  It's for, "non-motorized boating"

After reading about the facility, that would be a great spot for them.  It's closer to the campus than Ft Hamer.  They're scheduled to host the 2017 World Rowing Championships, the 2018 World Masters Regatta, the 2018, 2021, and 2022 NCAA Divisions I, II, and, III Women's Rowing Championships

Dad Vail Regatta is the largest college rowing event in the US.  Event is in Philly along Boat House Row.  Its a party for sure.
