At some point in the past USF Athletics decided to go with upgrading all the facilities. I'm sure it was the right move.

However, do you think there could have been enough funding from all the upgrades to fuel the building of an OCS?

And, if we had an OCS at the expense of all the other sports, would that be worth the gamble? The argument could be that we would be in a P5 and there would then be plenty of cash to build and upgrade all the facilities (argument: an OCS would increase the fan base and excitement for a P5 bid).

I can't help but wonder if the OCS route was the way to roll the dice. Of course, at the time nobody could predict the future of the conferences.

Men's bball as the breadwinner with all the facility upgrades and no P5 conference vs. an OCS and p5 conference with upgrades starting now.*

* Yes, I know the gnats have built an OCS and that didn't get them into a P5. But they weren't in the Big East. An OCS fan base and the Big East could have given us a boost into a P5.

OCS will need to happen. Would help boost sales of the on campus Publix. Would help increased booked hotels on campus and around campus. Busch Gardens may get extra customers. More restaurants, bars, and clubs will be added with OCS. Gas station sales should go up. People's real estate will go up. For an OCS not to happen is just crazy thinking.

I thought the cost of the facilities upgrade was in the $45 million range.  Not going back to look but that wouldn't cover a football stadium.

Look, unless someone decides to write an exclusive check for an OCS specifically, the finances aren't there and it's not going to happen. Even if the University could scrape the money together, it would only be out of NEED. There is no NEED as their is a state of the art facility 20 minutes south.

Using the only examples I have knowledge of the softball and baseball fields were a joke.  High schools had better facilities.  These upgrades were needed and long overdue.  Anyone that saw games in the old stadiums will easily remember this fact.

Actually this is a new horse, weighing the Athletics facilities most recently built against the one we haven't .... even though the answer is pretty much a no brainer in favor of the ones there now. You can tell we're entering the dog days of summer ...
