If that was the exact type player he wanted, why mess with giving a true freshman, who was nowhere near that type of player, random series during games, then a start ...

I may have said this before, but

Exactly!

Yup, White was the only QB of his mold CWT offered during his time here. Bench, Woulard, Keane, Odalokun all dual threat guys.....

So was that before or after he realized he wasn't exactly working with Andrew Luck and Toby Gerhart?

Random series, probably to get him some playing time. Maybe he promised him some "random series" exposure to get him on campus and prove that USF was one of the few schools willing to let him play QB. As for starting him, I'd say it's because MW had thrown an INT in 6 straight games before SMU and in the game before had a QBR of 7. What's QBR you ask? Doesn't matter. Here's how I'll explain it. Matt Floyd used to have games in the single digits. Mike White had multiple "Floyds" in 2014. That's why QF got in the game.

Odalokun is a a dual-threat guy? There's a difference between being able to run a little and being a dual-threat QB. Odalokun in his three season as a starter rushed for 142 yards (14.2/game), -49 yards (-0.6/game), and 94 yards (10.4/game). That's -49 yards for the season. That's like saying Kingston recruited a kid who's a big HR hitter, but he didn't hit a single HR in high school.

I am guessing that this is the start of the Spring Game DJ thread . . . I am hoping for a USF victory that day:GoBulls:

Watch the kid play, he's athletic and can run. His offense didn't ask him to run but the kid can do plenty with his legs.

But why even try to get QF to campus with promises of anything if MW was the exact type player he wanted at qb .... they are almost diametrically opposite.

He must be .... he was brought in after Coach Harlan changed the offense.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
