I do remember it going like.1st down....6 yard run by Andre Hall2nd down.... sack or bad pass by PJ3rd down.... sack or bad pass byPJ.4th down..... puntThe difference with a competent QB could be this simple.1st down....6 yard run by Hall2nd down.. pass thrown away by Denson avoid the rush.3rd down...pass complete by Denson- 5 yard out to Jackie Chambers. FIRST DOWN BULLS!Suddenly the play calling is ingenius once again, and the drives are sustained.

Seems those were also the EXACT same problems with the previous QB...and who developed that kid? hmmm....coincidence?

I can't recal EVER hearing that. At one point early on the strategy was a good one to keep other teams off guard but that when it was a surprise not expected. That advantage has loooooooooooooooooong since worn off. Aside from that the play calling has always been crap, we were just lucky we had a QB a few years ago that had the talent to run around for his life until something UNPLANNED became an option. Say what you want but I wasn't nor will I be satisfied with that type of offense. We need not only a talented QB that can make the coach APPEAR to be a genious but we also actually need a coach who IS a genious to have a consistently high quality offense. Newsweek redux? There is no official announcement yet... I hope TBO vetted their anonymous source's information..

In 01, and 02 our offense clicked primarily because it fit MB well, and he was able to implement it so perfectly. Beautiful short out routes, nice quick slant patterns to Hugh Smith, etc., etc. That offense also had some very strong offensive weapons that have yet to be replaced. Unfortunately since MB we haven't had a QB that fit his mold or the system. MB was not a great QB, he was just a good heady QB that found a system that fit him perfectly.Ingenius, maybe compared to the alternative that Canales was running. However, ingenius wasn't the real point of my post. THE REAL POINT, was that proper execution and suddenly the play calling is effective- despite what your preference in offensive styles may be.How often did PJ miss that 5-10 yard pass on 3rd and 4, where the receiver was wide open. As a coach you can teach them the lessons but you can't deliver the ball for them.Remember this is Leavitt's offense, so as I've said before your beef is with Jim. We need to resign ourselves to being small time for as long as we continue to make these boneheaded coaching hires.

Is Smith also going to be the reason our baseball team doesn't make post season or the reason Brumbaugh goes to OKST? It isn't like we selected Al-Arian to run the offense. Smith was QB coach when Schaeffer almost picked us over UT, and we're still running the exact same type of offense. It isn't like a major leap of faith, and unless Brent liked us exclusively because of Hobbie (boy wouldn't that be ironic) then I don't think we lose any slack.
