Wait, wait , wait one minute here. Didn't UConn just give Bob Diaco an extension last year? Why did they wait three months after the season ended when all the good candidates would be off the board?

I'm confused!

UCONN sure waited long enough.

FAU doing some interesting things. Kiffin, the FSU QB, now they are bringing in the Baylor OC.

Thinking they must have already lined up the replacement they wanted if they are doing it this late.

They would've had to pay him a few million if they fired him prior to January 1st. That's why the effective date is January 2nd. They missed out on good coaches to save some money, maybe the will go for Fleck?

UConn almost looked competitive last year, took a huge step back.

If Strong isn't going to keep Weist on staff I hope that he gets the UCONN job. They probably should have hired him instead of Diaco originally anyway.

They would've had to pay him 5 mill if they fired him earlier. Now it's only 3.4 mill

This firing reeks of Dougie's touch

That payout as well as his buyout would have been less without the extension this past May.

http://www.courant.com/sports/uconn-football/

"He will earn $1.7 million in 2016 (up from $1.6 million on the old contract), $1.8 million in 2017 (up from $1.7 million) and $1.9 million in 2018 (up from $1.7 million). Diaco will make $2 million in 2019 and $2.1 million in 2020."
