He has a Briles protege that knows his stuff.  I would hope he is bringing that guy along. I am sure he is.

Would be nice to bring Gilbert and essentially train him to be Strong's replacement if/when he jumps ship to P5. IIRC Gilbert was the OC for those impressive offenses at Tulsa.

So we are doubling are spending on football in 2 years from $3 mill to $6 mill?

Cutting our spending considerably in the next two years to save up money.  Works out well.

5 years $9.6 mil. Years 1 and 2 at $1 mil each which means $2.6 mil a year for years 3-5. Assistant pool is $1.66 mil this year and goes up to $3.4 mil for years 4 and 5. $2.5 mil buyout through next Year and then $1.7 for the remainder it looks like.

All numbers per Joeys Twitter.

I heard 9.8, but same otherwise.

To be honest, had Tony Dungy just come to me and explained that this was his plan all along (upgrades at both Oregon and USF, with USF arguably getting the better end of the deal; payoff of amounts due to former coaches; an increased commitment by USF to football; national PR win, etc.), I might have gone along with it from the beginning. Future looks bright!

PS: Now if Strong would only announce at his press conference Thursday that USF is going to build an OCS before his contract ends...

Just stop with the USF upgraded with Strong.  We just don't know yet.  Strong was hugely successful at Louisville, but bombed out at Texas.  Taggart has never bombed out anywhere.  Strong may wind up exceeding Taggart at USF, but there's no way to know yet.  He's a bigger name, that's all.

One this is for sure, if Willie had stayed another year at USF, the Bulls would have won 11-13 games.  Will Strong?  We don't know yet.

Nothing is EVER for sure. Nothing.

We also don't know how Taggart will perform at Oregon, so the potential for success in the future by either coach is a wash.

Also, you focus on the future, but ignore the past. Yes, Strong struggled at Texas, but Taggart also struggled at USF for two years and, but for finally letting his players play to their strengths, was almost fired himself.

Strong and Taggart were both also successful at UofL and WKU respectively, but Strong's stint there resulted in a Sugar Bowl win against Florida. Taggart got WKU to a pizza bowl, but departed for USF before the game.

On paper (at least) Strong has clearly accomplished more than Taggart in his career. I consider it an upgrade. Not knocking Taggart, just is what it is. Feel free to disagree.

He kind of did, but had time to turn it around. Strong had as many wins his first year as Taggart did in two here.
