What happens on the bus stays on the bus.

Wow, nice! That doesn't even taken into account the USF stragglers that will purchase via a secondary market. Little Havana is going to be full of green and gold, apparently.

USF To Meet Western Kentucky At Miami Beach Bowl

The University of South Florida (8-4, 6-2) from the American Athletic Conference and WesternKentuckyUniversity (11-2, 9-0) from Conference USA have accepted invitations to play in the second annual Miami Beach Bowl. The match-up will be played at MarlinsPark in Miami, Fla., on Monday, Dec. 21 at 2:30 p.m. EST and will air on ESPN.

“USF and Western Kentucky are two of the hottest teams in the country and we are excited to have them in our game,” said Carlos Padilla II, Executive Director of the Miami Beach Bowl.  “This matchup has the ability to be as exciting as our inaugural game last year in which Memphis defeated BYU 55-48 in double overtime.”

USF has won seven of its last eight games and will be playing in a bowl game for the first time since 2010 when it defeated Clemson in the Meineke Car Bowl. Sophomores QB Quinton Flowers (Miami, FL), RB Marlon Mack (Sarasota, FL) and CB Deatrick Nichols (Miami, FL) have led the turnaround this season for the Bulls, who have dominated opponents in their last three games, outscoring them 153-53.

“We are thrilled to be returning the USF Football program to a bowl game and the Miami Beach Bowl is a tremendous destination to celebrate that achievement,” said USF Director of Athletics Mark Harlan. “Coach Taggart, his coaching staff and all of the student-athletes are very deserving of this opportunity and I know they will have a fabulous experience.”

“I am so happy for our players, coaches and fans,” added Taggart. “The young men in our program believed in what we are building and committed themselves to the hard work, energy and team-first attitude needed to achieve their goals and set this program on an exciting path. I am so proud of them and so happy, particularly for our seniors, that they have the opportunity to complete this season in the Miami Beach Bowl.”

Western Kentucky, which defeated Southern Mississippi 45-28 in the Conference USA championship game on Saturday, has won five straight and nine of its last 10 games. The Hilltoppers have scored 40 or more points in all but one of its wins this season.  Senior QB Brandon Doughty (Davie, FL), a Manning Award finalist, has led the WKU attack passing with 42 touchdowns.

“We are excited to be taking part in our second consecutive bowl game as a member of Conference USA,” Western Kentucky Director of Athletics Todd Stewart said. “Our national profile has been raised by our affiliation with the league, and we have another tremendous bowl destination to reward our coaches and student-athletes for their efforts. It will be an exciting game, and WKU is proud to represent our league in the Miami Beach Bowl.”

“Playing in a bowl game is something you set as a goal at the beginning of every year, and we’re happy to be able to go play another fantastic bowl game this season and represent Conference USA,” said head coach Jeff Brohm. “Our coaches and players have worked extremely hard to get us to this point, and we look forward to getting back to practice this week to prepare for a great opponent.”

This will be the seventh meeting between USF and Western Kentucky.  The Bulls hold a  4-2 advantage in the series.  The last time the teams met was in 2010 at Raymond James Stadium (Tampa) and USF defeated the Hilltoppers 24-12.

Miami Beach Bowl game tickets are priced at $60 (additional fees may apply) and can be purchased online at www.marlins.com/events by telephone at 1.877.Marlins or in person at Marlins Park North Ticket Office (Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. And Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m).

The Miami Beach Bowl is owned and administered by the American Athletic Conference

we got one upped by WKU:

STUDENTS FREE FOR BOWL GAME. Bring your ID to our WKU gate in Miami for your FREE TICKET! #WKU #LoveStudents

Not exactly a "one up" though. WKU students have always been free to any home athletic event and they just carry it over to bowl games, conference championships, etc. I reckon it's just factored into the yearly budget.

USF students also get free tickets to home football games, so the WKU free bowl tickets are still a good deal for your students. WKU students just have to travel MUCH further to the game than USF students, so it's nice of WKU athletics to take that into consideration and offer a middle ground for those who are interested.

Interesting that we are wearing our home jerseys, when WKU is supposedly the better team, both in the rankings and record wise, plus they won their conference championship.
