It took the deli manager to get it made, but it was close to the taste of a real Cuban. The bread they used was closer to real Cuban bread, the crust was thicker. While it wasn't pressed, the thicker, crisp crust was more authentic than the chewy bread they normally use.

Can't really get a real Cuban there anymore ever since the sandwich press was banished.

There are still a few presses scattered around town.

I couldn't find if this was addressed in here, but is Publix moving away from the griddles?  Just recently moved from the epicenter of Publix land (mid St Pete where you not only have 1, but 2 Publixes to choose from across the street from each other) to Carillon in north St Pete.  Ordered a Philly Cheese sub and they used the bogus Subway type micro-oven to cook the meat/veggies and melt the cheese.  Just wasn't the same as having it done on the griddle.  I know the Carillon Publix is like a mini-Publix up here, so hoping this is isolated.

Wow, I leave town for a couple of years and Publix just goes straight down the crapper.

Losing sandwich presses left and right.  Microwaved cheese steaks.  The mythos of the Publix sub is fading into the past.

The Ultimate and Italian subs are still killer.  No press needed for those.

I had a Cuban sandwich from the Publix near my office (I'm in walking distance from it, it's great to get a little walk there and back in the middle of the day) and the lady who made it pressed it for me.  Fantastic.

They've also come out with some new ones that include bacon.  BACON.  BACON!

I don't consider the Publix sub mythos fading at all.

Meh, the philly steak and cuban are tier 3 subs.  As long as the Italian, Ultimate, Chicken tender, roast beef, and monthly special subs maintain their quality all is well.   That doesn't even take into consideration the rest of the deliciousness in the deli and the quality of the bread.

Subway is closer to fading than Publix deli, IMO. I like both, but if I want something special I go to Publix.

This is BIG BIG reason why I hardly ever come to this site anymore. i.e. The top post on the site contains this Publix nonsense because critical evaluation of our alma mater's highly paid athletic leaders who aren't ALUMNI and care only for their hefty checks is quelled by people who rarely if ever attend games and contribute nothing but nonsense like this.

P.S. What has Publix done for USF athletics??

I can only speak for football, but...

There's really nothing going on right now.  No interesting news that I am seeing.  I am pretty sure everyone is in a holding pattern on football to see if all of our offensive coordinators can scratch together a bowl game.  The home games have been a lifeless dead zone for years, so they have an annoying hype man and play music between plays because it's totally not the constant losing that drained the life out of the place.  The passion will happen this season when we either turn the corner or go into a justified "fire everyone" meltdown.

It's all about the BOLTS right now.  Go Bolts!

Speaking of meltdowns
The Rangers looked to have "denuded" the Bolts in game 6. Game 7 in NY will be a tough one.

We MUST win. No more game 7 heartbreakers ...

If we're talking chicken wings, does "denuded" mean breaded?

wouldn't denuded wings be the same as naked wings?

Nope. Those would be nuded wings. Breaded ones have been denuded.

Makes sense.....one of CWT's idea's ?

There was a time when anything you ordered from Publix would have been spectacular.  Now you have to avoid microwaved pitfalls.  The philly sub was never a go to, but it was always spectacular when ordered.

Subway fading?!  They seem to be producing a consistent level of mediocre year over year over year.

Since we are all bored until the season starts......

For the Publix hard corers, this would be worthy of a list "Publix Stores w/ deli presses".
