Usually when guys are just said to be "no longer with the program" that usually means they are stepping away from football.  If he was transferring I think we would have heard something by now

Not knowing the specifics here but lots of guys walk away if they just don't think they want to do it anymore.  It's a violent sport where you get beat up every day in practice for the opportunity to get beat up and beat up others in a game. Not for everyone.

could be a number of things. maybe he wants to preserve his body, knows he's not going to the next level and his heart isn't in it anymore
