Moreno Relieved Of Duties As Head Coach Of USF Women’s Tennis Program

 

TAMPA, FEB. 16, 2015 â€“ Agustin Moreno has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the University of South Florida women’s tennis program for not meeting the standards expected of a head coach, Director of Athletics Mark Harlan announced Monday.  USF will commence a national search for a successor to lead the program.

 

Assistant coach Kelly Anderson has been appointed interim head coach of the program.

They are 2-4 this year. Losing all 4 by wide margins (FSU, Syracuse, GA Tech, UF)

But they won the AAC title last season, and made it to the Old BEast finals the year before.

 

Was Harlan just not happy with the early results this year, ignoring past years, or did something happen behind the scenes?

Moreno got to 6 NCAA’s in 9 years, won the Big East in ’07 and the AAC last year. So… yeah very likely something bad happened here.

The team has a tradition of winning recently. Clearly this is not the "standards" expected of a coach at USF.

i hope i'm wrong, but that sounds like he was doinking someone he shouldn't have been, or something scandal-y.

That's the first thing that I thought as well, considering his winning history here.

If its a scandal of some sort and we haven't heard about it yet, it may be for the best when the news breaks that we fired him sooner rather than later.

 

If its just for a lousy start (which I doubt) then eyebrows will be raised.

Its no doubt over something scandalous, in which case we look neutral rather than bad for firing before the fact rather than after.
