EVIDENCE FOR:

Taggart ran on 3rd down, which would make sense if he thought it was 2nd down, and the spike would come on 3rd.

Speculation =/= evidence.

 Also, running it could very easily be chalked up to trying to catch the defense off guard and giving the ball to the hot hand in Johnson.   Even with the run there was plenty of time to get another play off, there was what 4 seconds left after the play?

Exactly. Johnson was tearing them up late and there was plenty of time .... especially since we're accustomed to getting plays in late to begin with.

What's kind of been overlooked was the second and goal play where MW had to scramble out of the pocket and threw a perfectly placed pass to Mut in the end zone, who let it slip through his fingers.

Call me crazy but I really liked the run call. We had run the ball effectively and it had a good chance to catch the defense by surprise. And you are right - there was plenty of time to get the play off.

Yes, but what about his birth certificate? I mean, if he has it, why doesn't he just show us?

It was Cousin Ricky who said it, he was at the game in the AD box.  HOF post if I ever saw one.

Voodoo 5 can now change their blog name to Spike On 4Th Down.

Thanks that's what I was lookin for by starting this post.

Yikes. If what he said was true (and I have no reason to not believe) then that is not good. Wonder what Harlan said to Taggs during the half. I really really really hope that he's wrong about the signal to spike tho, if we somehow would have gone through with that we would've been the laughing stock of NCAA for half a decade....

Pretty sure they lost track of downs. Seems to be an AAC phenomena. Joe Montana's son at Tulane did it earlier this year.

Anyone who doesn't know stick routes needs to play more madden, but for reference, the following both exhibit stick routes for the primary receiver.

Flip the bottom one and you have the last play.

Either way: A signal doesn't have to mean what it looks like, right?

I agree and obviously we had time to run another play.
