@McMurphyESPN: WVU’s Luck said in 2011 if B12 blew up, B12/Big East would have merged: Bay, KU, KSU, ISU, TCU, UL, UC, RU, WVU, USF, UCF, UConn

Uggh.......

"Luck's plan, which also had the support of Louisville athletic Tom Jurich, was also to add UCF for a 12-team Big East divided into two divisions: West: Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, TCU and Louisville; East: UConn, Cincinnati, Rutgers, West Virginia, South Florida and UCF."

"I remember thinking: 'That's not a bad conference,'" Luck said. "And we would have kept the affiliation with the (Big East) basketball schools, because they loved the addition of Kansas. They (the Big 12 schools) also liked it. They were nervous as hell, too. We had a series of phone calls. That was sort of our best option."

Absolutely.

Though, the main point of the article is that the Big12 is not expanding. Their per school revenue was more than the SEC last year.

I didn't read the article, and it's not surprising their per school revenue is higher, there are what, 4 less teams than in the SEC?  If that's the case though, only way expansion will ever happen is if the other P5 conferences force them to, and I don't think that's too far out of the realm of possibility.

I think the problem with this scenario is that would have created the big 4 instead leaving five conferences. The only reason we have a chance right now because there are five conferences.

So bottom line again is, build our brand so if expansion happens again we add value to any of the P5 or at least don't dilute it.

AKA buy official merch and season tickets!

I'm not sure I'm following ... how would there have only been 4 conferences?  Only difference between that and what we have now is there would be no AAC, right?  Other than UCF, everyone else would have been still in C-USA.

Or am I missing something?
