RB Battle

One of the pleasures of this offseason is that we have a crowded backfield to talk about. We already have two young guys coming on in McCray and Tice, as well as the old guard with Willie Davis and Mike Pierre. Never mind that we have two four star RBs coming in in D'Earnest Johnson and Marlon Mack. 

 

So who do you think starts? Do we go with a committee? Do you think Swanson gets playing time at RB with some of the things we saw in spring? 

 

Also, do you think Mack or Johnson redshirt? 

 

I spoke with one of the deep back ups (though he started in the Spring Game for the White team) in Rodney Watson the night before the spring game. He said that Pierre had a very good spring and seems like he will be the starter going into fall camp, though of course he's going to face a challenge.

So do you have any ideas as to what you think might play out? Maybe some football talk?

We are in trouble if Pierre starts

Pierre had a good spring game and he's smart enough to know all the blocking schemes. Tyre mccants also did some rb in hs and is the most explosive playmaker coming in arguably. I see Pierre starting and swanson seeing the field on short yardage situations.

i think by mid season mack or dearnest will be starting. I actually hope one of them takes a red shirt. 

 

Tice/Pierre will carry the early season load and one of them will fall off to accommodate mack or johnson.

 

I'm not sold at all on McCray.

Fullback has been a big part of Taggart's offenses in the past. I expect Swanson to get a good amount of playing time.

I am not sold on Davis. I am not big on letting unproven freshmen start until they get some playing time under game conditions.

With that being said I expect Pierre or Tice to start with the other 3 Freshmen seeing a lot of playing time until one proves himself on the field.

I just love that we have real competition and an offensive line that should be strong enough to create some holes. I don't care who gets the playing time!

FWIW Johnson's name is D'Ernest, goes by Dee.He will challenge for starting time from Day 1. I think Tice starts despite Pierre's good spring. I the Swanson and McCray share power role.
