Gillion comes to FIU after spending five years at Northeast High School in Oakland Park, Fla. There he served as the head assistant coach from 2008 to 2010 and head basketball coach from 2010 to 2013. While at Northeast, Gillion helped over 120 student-athletes receive scholarships to universities nationwide, while leading the Hurricanes to the school’s first 20-win season and district championship in 30 years (2009), and a national raking during the 2010-11 season. Northeast also claimed the Kruel Classic title in both 2010 and 2011, marking the program’s first-ever national tournament titles. In each of his five seasons with the Hurricanes, Gillion’s players received first-team all-state honors (Jelani Hewitt 2009 and 2010; Daniel Sapp in 2011; Demeatrius Henry in 2012; Malik Price Martin in 2013). He also served as the director of basketball operations and assistant AAU coach for Breakdown, Inc.
