Not good that this is getting leaked.

I agree.  If I'm Rice, the only reason to leak this is for leverage. If I'm USF, I do everything I can to avoid leaking it in light of the Masiello mishap.  I don't see this working out, but who knows.

Interesting. I'd be ok with the hire. Not sure why he'd leave UNLV, 1.2 mill/year doesn't seem unattainable for them.

He's 70-13 (29-19) in 3 seasons at UNLV, his only HC job so far.

Agree with him using us to leverage an extension at UNLV. At least this leak didn't come from USF, it seems.

If he was actually 70-13 I'd be pumped.

Dyslexia kicks in! Should be 70-31.

Wiki says 70-31, not 70-13...

He wins 70 percent of his games a year at UNLV and his teams have a Leavitt-style penchant to upset big time opponents (beat #1 UNC in the Las Vegas Classic, beat #19 Illinois). He'd surely be a decent fit here, my only bother is that he hasn't been a head coach with his guys.

A quick read on articles, it's said last season was a bad one for him, considering talent.

There's a lot to read about his recent struggles.

At a glance, it’s not hard to figure out why Kruger went elsewhere after the 2010 season. At his peak at UNLV, Kruger was making just over $1 million in total salary—certainly no chump change, but comparatively speaking, it was lower than most coaches that were having similar success.

http://virtual-rebel.com/2013/06/05/dave-rice-considered-a-bargain-to-unlv-despite-lack-of-ncaa-tournament-success/

Some worry that if Rice keeps his current pace and is consistently winning, it won’t be long before school’s come calling. He could very well see a similar result to FGCU’s coach soon enough. Koloskie said, “My biggest concern are other schools coming after him where the market is $1 to $1.5 million

dollar range. Then we’ll have to make some decisions.†Even this year, schools came after him.

To put Rice’s salary into prospective, here are some base salaries around the university from the 2011 year. President Neal Smatresk made $319,508.43, Athletic Director Jim Livengood made 257,592.17 and assistant coach Stacey Augmon made $185,117.02. Keep in mind that all three gentlemen received additional benefits, which raised their totals.
