Will be interesting to see WHY.  Not sure if he can play immediately (eligible?  or even ready, if he is?).

Still, he seems like a good player, in an area of need (especially with concerns about Blackwood).

2014 defensive end Kevin Bronson (Delray Beach, Fla./Village Academy) won’t be headed to Blacksburg as originally planned.

Instead, the 6-foot-4, 233-pound prospect will enroll at USF.

Bronson was a three-star prospect and the No. 139 player in Florida according to 247Sports out of high school. He took an official visit to USF back on January 17, but ended up committing to the Hokies on February 1.

If he never started classes there, he shouldn't be considered a transfer and should be eligible to play this year.

Not the way I was expecting to get him, but at least he's here. Hoping this experience motivates him to do well here rather than sulking. Must have been a little uncomfortable for Taggart to have to re add him, but like other said, this will give us some depth. He's too small for a 3-4 or 4-3 until he adds 20 pounds of muscle. If he plays this year it will be as a situational pass rusher.

Perhaps, this is the reason:

Village Academy DL Kevin Bronson Virginia Tech bound, for now

February 1, 2014|Andrew Ivins, Sun Sentinel, Andrew Ivins, Sun Sentinel

Village Academy three-star defensive lineman Kevin Bronson committed to Virginia Tech Saturday morning, but there's no guarantee that he will be on the Hokies’ campus next fall.

Bronson – the Sun Sentinel’s No. 11 rated player in Palm Beach County – could be the odd-man out of a Virginia Tech numbers crunch. The Hokies currently have four defensive linemen committed and are awaiting word from other high-profile targets who could take the final few spots in the 2014 class, like American Heritage athlete Isaiah McKenzie, who is taking an official visit to Blacksburg this weekend.

He's enrolling Sunday. As liong as he's released, don't think he's subject to transfer rule. Prolly RSs anyway.

from vatech blogger

Per his HC, Bronson was a point shy on ACT of qualifying. VTech had said from beginning they'd be able to get him in, but started to waver.

Bronson & family thought #VTech had been giving him the run-around, so he asked for release on Tues. #Hokies granted it & he's now with #USF

The Hokies also continued their tradition of picking up a late commitment from a south Florida defensive prospect in three star defensive end Kevin Bronson. Bronson has the size to slide inside if needed when he gets to Virginia Tech, but also can rush the passer at defensive end. He was a steal for the Hokies, turning down schools like Vanderbilt, Nebraska, South Carolina, Arkansas and more.

Hope to see him do some good here.

Here's a more in-depth atricle explaining some things. Mentions how VaTech treated him as a 2nd tier player.
