Sonny Vaccaro, who got Nike into the business of putting shoes on college teams way back is now behind trying to get college athletes paid. Said he saw all this money and the kids got nothing. That's in the Epix documentary Schooled. http://youtu.be/w44_6hjp4Mo

I hope the kids form their own league and can get paid.

Just for the record. I was not involved at all and I don't know for sure who got the deal done. There was no hidden message in my post. I think it is a good deal for USF and think we did good.

Steve said we get less than Cincinnati ... who played in BCS Bowl games, and has a rich basketball history. I would not expect to get more than them.

Agree we should count ourselves fortunate to have what we have.

UCF's deal with Nike until 2015 is funny, since they were an Adidas school until MJ, Jr. killed the deal by wearing some Air's on the court in 2009. I'm sure Nike got them on contract for a steal, but I couldn't find the value due to NDA's in place.

That's not forming their own league.

If they are serious, they should renounce their scholarships and go somewhere they feel they will get value for their athletic ability.

Unfortunately, that doesn't allow attorneys to exploit them and keep half.

I would be willing to bet that Nike matched what ever the Adidas deal was.  I highly doubt they came in and undercut them.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
