Insert joke about A. Davis not fielding punts.

The MSU PA announcer was pretty funny.  USF fields the punt inside the 5 yard line...   Ouch

The funny thing is, I distinctly remember that before Durden made the bonehead decision to field the punt inside the 10, there were several punts that he planted on the 10 yard line, and when it looked like it would go over, he ran forward to get the hell away from the ball.

I don't get why he chose to field the one he did at that moment, but I guess I made some dumb mistakes when I was that age too ...

All these kids want to get their chance to do something cool/great and be a team hero. I really think he was just frustrated he wasn't getting a chance to shine, so he took it. I'd bet it won't happen again.

If I remember right, Andre Davis was not good at fielding punts last year

Correct

I like that he's addressing it.  Instead of just letting it go.

Well, I don't know.  After the McNeese game, Taggart said that players gave up out there and they would be replaced.  I didn't see any lineup changes against Michigan St.

Last year we had all kinds of "tryouts", and they almost always went back to the original option.  Taggart says you have to do something to earn or keep your spot on the field.  Lots of players have been out there for two weeks and not done anything.  I'd like to see actual changes, rather than talking about it.

You didn't see improvement from week 1 to week 2?  You never know what happened in practice.  It's possible that those who, "quit" showed that they wanted to be there during practice.

They've been practicing since spring.  Gotta #dosomething on the field.

Yes, the defense improved from week one.  Offense I'm thinking not.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
