Vero Beach is a waste

Vero is a waste... the team needs to be immersed in USF spirit and on campus... not camping 35 miles south and singing coombya by the camp fire.

I like the idea of playing somewhere and keeping them together for 10 days and spending close uninterupted time together. But since we started this vero thing, we have continued to slide backwards. Not superstitious or anything just not seeing where we are getting results from it.

Having played sports myself and having kids in sports, it is always good to get them away into an unfamiliar situation and staying in hotels, etc is a great bonding opportunity. Hard to duplicate the value of that. But seems we need something stronger, more challenging, and to create more unity. Taggart said they were fighting on the sidelines (more or less) so where is that unity?

What happened last week is the worst game we have ever played. Probably worse than Temple which was the new low bar as of last year. It is conceivable that we win only 2 or 3 games this year. Consider, the coaching staff felt they put the best players on the field. If that was all we could muster up, we are in for a crazy season.

I was thinking Tent City here in Arizona.

Closer trip for them to spend 10 days in suitcase city in Tampa.

Not really accurate to say it's cost neutral. It cost USF about $180,000 to be in Vero for eight days, plus transportation. There are considerable costs in keeping them on campus, but to some extent, you don't want to diminish the value of USF football giving money back to USF. The logistics of housing 105 players in one place between semesters is a major issue. Could be done, but not the way USF football wants it done ...

Maybe we can have them go to Southbeach next year, or Vegas.. Lol....

I've never really understood us going to Vero Beach to practice. I know it is supposed to help team chemistry and bonding between players, but ever since we've gone to Vero, I've seen no improvement on the field (which is what really matters).  Also, the costs can not be worth it at all.  Use the facilities we have.

 

Please, next season, can we skip out on Vero Beach?
